Ovid man gets 4-month sentence after seriously injuring infant child in 2021

A man from Ovid who seriously injured his infant child has been sentenced to a relatively short jail term. Jeremy Andrews, 29, was sentenced last week to four months in jail after pleading guilty to reckless assault of a child.

It’s a Class D felony, which can carry a sentence of up to 7 years in prison.

However, the sentence includes a five year protective order for the victim.

Andrews was accused of causing serious injuries to his child, who was less than 1-year-old at the time. The child suffered a broken leg and hemorrhaging of the brain. They were treated and ultimately released from Golisano Chidlren’s Hospital.

The Finger Lakes Times reported that prosecutors told them that the injuries may not have as serious as originally reported. Another factor in the sentence was the lack of cooperation from ‘key’ witnesses and family members.
