Sabres top Blue Jackets in season finale

The Buffalo Sabres (42-33-7, 91 points) capped off their best season in 12 years with a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night at Nationwide Arena.

Buffalo fell into an early hole but scored three second-period goals and never looked back.

Casey Mittelstadt stayed red-hot, scoring his 15th goal and notching an assist. He finished the season with a career-high 59 points.

Jeff Skinner reached the 80-point mark for the first time in his career with his 35th goal and a pair of assists.

Alex Tuch netted his career-high 36th goal and finished one point shy of the 80-point mark.

Victor Olofsson and Peyton Krebs also found the back of the net.

Devon Levi stopped 29-of-31 shots and became one of three goaltenders in franchise history to win at least five of the first seven games of their career. Jacques Cloutier (1981-82) and Don Edwards (1976-77) are the only other Buffalo goaltenders who have done so.
