Bath police have apprehended a man accused of stealing and subsequently vandalizing a vehicle found abandoned on Wednesday.
On Thursday, police arrested Kaleb E. Heidrick, 33, charging him with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (Class D Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class E Felony), and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (Class D Felony). The charges stem from the theft of a white pick-up truck discovered at Mountainview Apartments on May Street on April 12, which had been spray-painted black all over.
During questioning, Heidrick reportedly ingested concealed narcotics and suffered an overdose. He was promptly taken to Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital for treatment. Following his hospital release, Heidrick was processed at the Village of Bath Police Department and subsequently transferred to the Steuben County Jail.
Bath Police have issued a reminder to residents to secure their property and recommended home security cameras as a potential deterrent against certain crimes.
