A three-vehicle collision on Route 13 south of Ithaca left one dead and two injured on Wednesday evening, according to the New York State Police. Kathy A. Fox of Newfield, who was operating a 2020 Ford Explorer involved in the crash, later succumbed to her injuries at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
The accident, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, forced the closure of the highway in both directions near Route 13A and Seven Mile Drive in the Town of Ithaca, between Ithaca and Newfield.
New York State Police investigators at the scene disclosed that the Ford Explorer was traveling southbound when it failed to maintain its lane. It struck a 2015 Honda Fit that had pulled over onto the west shoulder of the road before veering into the northbound lane and colliding with a 2007 Lexus.
While the occupants of the Honda Fit escaped unharmed, the operator of the Lexus was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in stable condition. Fox, the driver of the Ford Explorer, was also transported to the same hospital, where she tragically passed away on April 13, 2023, due to her injuries.
