Mets drop series finale to Marlins

The New York Mets (5-5) could not complete the three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins (4-6) as they fell 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.

New York fell behind early after Carlos Carrasco struggled on the mound again, and the offense could never generate enough.

Carrasco gave up six runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings while walking three and striking out one. The right-hander has allowed 11 runs in two starts this season.

Stephen Nogosek surrendered a run over 3 1/3 innings, while Dennis Santana fired a scoreless frame.

Pete Alonso and Francisco Alvarez drove in the only runs with RBI singles. New York finished 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Mark Canha had the team’s only multi-hit game.

Starling Marte left the game with a neck strain but is listed as day-to-day.

The Mets will open a three-game home series with the San Diego Padres on Monday at 7:10 p.m. Max Scherzer will make his third start.
