The New York Met’s aren’t even taking the field Thursday and still received terrible news.
Catcher Omar Narváez, who left Wednesday’s game, suffered a medium to a high-grade strain of his left calf and will be placed on the Injured List. He is expected to miss 8-9 weeks, per the team.
In a corresponding move, the Mets will call up No. 1 prospect Francisco Álvarez from Triple-A Syracuse.
New York signed Narváez to a one-year contract in the offseason. The 31-year-old was hitting .286/.353/.286 in five games with the Mets this season.
The Mets will return to action on Friday when they open a three-game series with the Miami Marlins at Citi Field.
