Efforts underway to keep downtown Penn Yan businesses thriving during construction

Penn Yan’s Main Street infrastructure project will begin today and the Downtown Business Council is working with downtown businesses to help free up more parking spots in public parking lots by finding alternative parking for staff.

Main Street will be closed from Elm Street to Maiden Lane, Monday through Friday, except for the weekend of April 15-16, and will be open to two-way traffic during the weekends. The project is ever-evolving, and dates and timelines could shift, but the Village of Penn Yan is providing timely and detailed updates regarding the project.

The project is a temporary inconvenience for a better Penn Yan, and the Downtown Business Council encourages people to continue shopping, eating, and enjoying the local businesses during this time. Though there will be disruptions, it is important to know that businesses will be open and accessible, and the sidewalks will be available except when direct repair is planned. Additionally, most downtown businesses have backdoor entrances that are closer to the public parking lots and can be utilized if needed.

To stay informed about the project, the Village of Penn Yan – Department of Public Works provides updates on Facebook and their website at www.villageofpennyan.com. The Downtown Business Council is committed to working with the village and businesses to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.
