The town of Covert in Seneca County has received approval from the Economic Development and Tourism Committee to request $10,000 from the Seneca County Board of Supervisors special tourism fund.
The money would be used to support the purchase of Boy Scout Camp Barton by the state Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
The camp would be maintained and operated jointly as a recreation facility by Covert, the town of Ulysses, and the village of Trumansburg in Tompkins County, once the state acquires the property. The full board will vote on the request at its April 11 meeting.
Two other requests, for $2,500 each, for the Seneca Falls Historical Society and the Lodi Summer Festival, were also unanimously approved by the committee.
