With the victory, Buffalo (37-31-7, 81 points) moved within four points of the Florida Panthers for the second wild card spot with two games in hand.
Jeff Skinner found the back of the net for the third consecutive game and notched an assist. Jordan Greenway netted his second goal in as many games, while Kyle Okposo also added a goal. Casey Mittelstadt collected three assists. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 39 saves between the pipes.
Both teams failed to capitalize on the power play as Buffalo went 0-for-3 and Philadelphia finished 0-for-2.
The Sabres will return to action on Tuesday when they head to Florida to take on the Panthers at 7 p.m.
