A former Auburn Police Department officer and school resource officer is claiming his rights were violated.
William Morrissey appeared before a Cayuga County Court judge for a hearing on his claim that his rights were violated during a criminal investigation involving alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
Morrissey was arrested last year on charges of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student. He claimed that an internal probe by the city of Auburn improperly influenced the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office investigation that led to criminal charges.
After hearing five witnesses, the judge requested that the defense and prosecution submit memorandums on whether rights violations occurred during the investigation.
The memorandums are due on April 7.
The statements Morrissey made during the internal probe were not used in the criminal case.
