During the overnight hours the Cortlandville and Homer Fire Departments responded to a structure fire that broke out on Route 215 in the Town of Cortlandville. Upon arriving at the scene, the fire crews encountered thick smoke and flames emanating from the house.
While firefighters worked to contain the fire, one individual was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was later deemed to be accidental.
After about 20 minutes of battling the fire, the firefighters were able to bring it under control. The flames were limited to two rooms in the structure, thanks to the swift action of the responders.
Assistance was provided to the Cortlandville Fire Department by five other fire departments, as well as police and EMS personnel. All of the firefighting personnel had cleared the scene by 2:00 a.m. the following day.
