A federal court has lifted an injunction that had been preventing state regulators from granting licenses for cannabis sales in multiple regions of New York.
This move enables the Office of Cannabis Management to issue licenses for businesses in Central New York, Western New York, Mid-Hudson, and Brooklyn.
The decision was made as the court continues to hear the case, and an injunction on cannabis licenses in the Finger Lakes region still remains.
The federal court had previously sided with a company that contested provisions of New York’s cannabis law requiring licenses for all retail dispensaries to be awarded to people who have been affected by prior drug enforcement measures in the state. This ruling prevented the issuance of licenses in several regions of the state.
