Kansas man found with loaded handgun on the Thruway

A 21-year-old man from Derby, Kansas was arrested on March 25 for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after being caught with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Westmoreland, New York.

According to authorities, Jose A. Ayala-Rivera was stopped for speeding on the highway when a loaded Glock 45 9mm handgun was found in his possession. The Troop D – SP Marcy BCI unit assisted Troop T with the investigation.

Ayala-Rivera was subsequently arrested and taken to the Oneida County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment. It is unclear at this time what Ayala-Rivera’s intentions were with the firearm or how he acquired it.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict gun control laws and the need for law enforcement to remain vigilant in ensuring that individuals who possess firearms are doing so legally and responsibly. The investigation into Ayala-Rivera’s possession of the firearm is ongoing.
