A 21-year-old man from Derby, Kansas was arrested on March 25 for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after being caught with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Westmoreland, New York.
According to authorities, Jose A. Ayala-Rivera was stopped for speeding on the highway when a loaded Glock 45 9mm handgun was found in his possession. The Troop D – SP Marcy BCI unit assisted Troop T with the investigation.
Ayala-Rivera was subsequently arrested and taken to the Oneida County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment. It is unclear at this time what Ayala-Rivera’s intentions were with the firearm or how he acquired it.
