Mets DFA Darin Ruf, Auburn native Tim Locastro makes Opening Day roster

The New York Mets informed Auburn native Tim Locastro on Monday that he has made the Opening Day roster after the team designated Darin Ruf for assignment.

Ruf hit just .167/.265/.233 in 11 spring training games and was dealing with a right wrist injury. The Mets still owe him $3.25 million.

Locastro, known for his speed and defense, swiped six stolen bases this spring. The 2010 Auburn High School grad also produced a .907 OPS.

Daniel Vogelbach will now become the Mets’ full-time DH heading into the season.
