Auburn man awaiting sentencing on gun charges arrested on felony drug charges

A man from Auburn is facing two drug-related felony charges after authorities found him in possession cocaine — a significant quantity that was discovered in his residence.

According to a press release by the Auburn Police Department, members of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force and the Auburn Police Department Patrol Division executed a search warrant at 14 Thornton Avenue at around 5:51 p.m. on Saturday.

Kyreese Gilliam, who was awaiting sentencing for unrelated gun and drug charges from July 2022 and was out on bail, was found near his residence on Chapman Avenue. Due to the bail reform, Gilliam was free while awaiting his sentencing.

He was taken into custody by the patrol division and brought to Auburn Police headquarters. During the arrest, police discovered that Gilliam had over $7,500 in cash and a small amount of cocaine on his person.

After arresting Gilliam, the FLDTF executed a search warrant at Gilliam’s residence. During the search, the authorities recovered over 77 grams of cocaine, along with more than 49 grams of crack cocaine and associated drug paraphernalia.

As a result, Gilliam was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, and second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A-II felony. He was processed and transported to the Cayuga County Jail to await his arraignment.
