Officials say they will pursue all legal avenues after two bomb threats in Hilton CSD

The Hilton Central School District has received two bomb threats this week, which police believe to be part of a series of automated overseas emails. The latest threat, sent from a Russian email domain on Friday, demanded the removal of “pornographic materials” from school libraries. Meanwhile, Wednesday’s email threat condemned the availability of a book called “This Book is Gay” in the Hilton High School library.

Captain Pat Rojas of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that there were no known local suspects and that the police had not found any connection to the threats. However, Rojas warned that they would prosecute any suspects to the fullest extent of the law.

Superintendent Casey Kosiorek said that the district had been working with students in the LGBTQ+ community to ensure that they felt safe. Kosiorek expressed regret that the debate over the availability of the book was making students feel excluded, saying that the district was “absolutely sorry” about it. He added that the controversy could be causing division within the community, leading some individuals to make the threats.
