Rose man convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide

Rose resident Christopher Kirkey was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide on March 24 for his involvement in a fatal car crash that took place in 2019.

The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office found Kirkey guilty of causing the death of two individuals, Kayla M. Mettler, 27, and Michael K. Schute, 32, in addition to six other charges.


The accident occurred on May 26, 2019, in the town of Savannah, and Kirkey was hospitalized at Upstate Medical Center following the crash. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office did not provide any further details about the incident leading to Kirkey’s conviction.

Kirkey’s sentencing, which was scheduled for the same day as his conviction, has been adjourned until May 25, 2023.
