We’re less than a week away from Opening Day, and the New York Mets have started cutting down their roster.
On Saturday night, the Mets sent third basemen Brett Baty and Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse.
Baty hit .325/.460/.425 over 50 plate appearances in spring training, while Vientos slashed .278/.310/.481 over 58 trips to the plate.
General Manager Billy Eppler was asked about the moves: “There are still some development objectives to reach,” he said. “They’re a phone call away. They don’t need something to happen at the major-league level. They have the type of talent where they can push their way up here.”
Eduardo Escobar will open the season at the hot corner.
