Canandaigua’s Wood Library is in the process of making its reading garden a reality. The project was initially proposed in 2020 to hold outdoor events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The library’s executive director, Jenny Goodemote, laid out the plans for the reading garden, including an outdoor children’s theater, a pollinator garden, and a Native American plant garden. Goodemote explained that the library aims to make the garden more educational than just an outdoor space for people to enjoy.
While a state grant started the funding, the rest of the $500,000 goal is being raised through donations. Wood Library is currently looking to raise the final $70,000. The fundraising efforts will include a mini-golf night for adults on Friday with tickets priced at $25 per person, and a family day on Saturday with tickets priced at $5 per person.
Once the library reaches its $500,000 goal, the project is expected to begin construction in the upcoming fall.
