The New York Mets received terrible news on Thursday morning.
All-star closer Edwin Díaz tore his right patellar tendon while celebrating Puerto Rico’s victory over the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday night and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season, the Mets announced.
The 28-year-old recorded 32 saves, a 1.31 ERA, and 118 strikeouts in 62 innings for the Mets last season.
