Mobile driver’s licenses are coming to New York.
In fact, they could be online by the end of the year.
Reps with the state Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed as much in February, noting that mobile driver’s licenses were in development.
The plan, at that point, was to implement them by the end of the year.
It’s unclear at this point how it might be used, but the idea that a driver’s license could be digitized is not unusual. There are several other states in the U.S. that offer mobile driver’s licenses and digital IDs.
