The Lyons Lions (24-2) had their season end on Saturday afternoon with a 57-47 loss to the Randolph Cardinals (20-4) in the New York State Class C Far West Regional at Gates-Chili.
Lyons trailed for the entire game and faced a double-digit deficit at the end of the second and third quarters. They did make several pushes late, including one in the fourth quarter when they cut the lead to six with 1:02 left in regulation, but Randolph sealed the victory with free throws.
The Cardinals did a tremendous job on the defensive end. JC Walker was held to a season-low nine points, and only one Lyons player finished in double figures. Jacob Sides knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 16 points. Steven LeBrecht added seven points, including a big three-pointer late to keep the Lions in the game.
Randolph will face Dolgeville/Moravia in the Final Four next Friday at 11:15 a.m.
