The Liverpool Police Department responded to an investigation on Thursday, March 9th, after the principal of the Alternative to Homebound School reported that a student possessed a gun during school hours.
A student notified his guardian that he had seen a student with a black handgun inside his jacket, which prompted the guardian to notify the school.
Detectives arrested a 12-year-old student from Lyncourt for criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is a felony. The child is scheduled to appear in Youth Court on Tuesday, March 13th.
The weapon in question was a black BB Gun that was found at the child’s residence. There were no reported verbal threats to use the weapon against another student or the school.
The Liverpool Police Department reminded the public that even BB guns can be considered weapons and should not be brought onto school grounds.
