According to the European Space Agency, there is a one in 625 chance that an asteroid called 2023 DW, which is roughly 50 meters in diameter, will collide with Earth on February 14, 2046.
The asteroid, the only space object on the agency’s “Risk List” with a Torino scale rating of 1, has a small chance of making impact with Earth.
NASA has been monitoring 2023 DW and states it has “a very small chance of impacting Earth in 2046.”
The agency will continue to observe its orbit and if necessary, it has the technology to protect the planet as it did in last year’s successful DART mission that redirected the trajectory of a small asteroid.
