Multiple fire departments from western Ontario County responded to a house fire at 3026 County Road 40 on Sunday evening. The blaze was reported around 5:15 p.m., and firefighters from East Bloomfield, West Bloomfield, Naples, Ionia, and Bristol quickly arrived on the scene. Some of the departments provided tanker and pumper trucks.
The rural home, located near the intersection of Bailey Road, is not on a water line, so firefighters had to truck in water to fight the flames. In addition, the Cheshire Fire department was called upon to send an interior crew to assist with the firefighting efforts.
According to information from the fire dispatcher, the homeowner was not present at the time the blaze was discovered, but was on their way back to the residence. At this time, it is unknown if anyone else was inside the house. As a precaution, rescue vehicles and medics from Canandaigua Ambulance were requested to stand by.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and firefighters remain on the scene as of the time of this writing. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in the home. Residents are encouraged to regularly check their smoke detectors, have a fire extinguisher on hand, and have an escape plan in place in case of a fire emergency.
