Cornell University’s online ticket sales system for events suffers breach

Cornell University has suspended online ticket sales for athletics, theatre, and special events following a breach last month at AudienceView, the online ticket sales vendor used by the university.

Details about the number of ticket purchasers affected remain unclear. However, the breach compromised credit card information of ticket buyers. Cornell Athletics has announced that online ticketing will not be available for the Big Red men’s basketball game this Saturday, and previously purchased tickets need to be reissued and will be available from the will-call table inside Bartels Hall. E-tickets will not be accepted.

AudienceView has notified affected ticket purchasers that their name, billing and shipping address, email address, and payment card information may have been impacted by the breach. Cornell has advised anyone who believes they may have received fraudulent credit card charges following the purchase of tickets from AudienceView to contact the company directly.

The breach has also affected Cornell Concert Series, Cornell Tickets, and Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. AudienceView has offered a year of free credit monitoring and identity protection service via CyberScout, a TransUnion company, to affected ticket purchasers. The company has turned off online sales until it completes its investigation into the incident.
