WEDNESDAY HS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL REPORT: Newark boys roll past Waterloo; Dundee/Bradford girls upset Lyons

The Section V high school basketball semifinals wrapped on Wednesday night.

The Newark boys and Dundee/Bradford girls advanced to the finals. Check out the scores, stats, and updated brackets below.


W-FL BOYS SEMIFINALS SCOREBOARD (3/1):

No. 6 Waterloo 35
No. 2 Newark 61

Newark led 21-7 after the opening quarter, but Waterloo went on a 14-4 run in the first five minutes and 28 seconds of the second quarter to close the gap to four. However, that would be as close as it would get as the Reds added five points before the break and dominated the second half to secure the victory. The Tigers finished the season with a 13-9 record.

Dundee/Bradford led the entire first half, but Lyons went on an 8-0 run to open the second half and grabbed the lead for the first time. However, the BraveScots quickly regained the lead and never looked back as they outscored the Lions 27-19 in the final quarter to seal the win. Lyons finished the season with a 19-4 record under first-year head coach Calvin Betts.
