A Steuben County resident died in a tragic snowmobile accident over the weekend in Lewis County, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Dean Cole of Cameron Mills.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in the town of Martinsburg, located southeast of Watertown. Cole was riding on a trail when his Polaris snowmobile left the north side of the trail and collided with a tree.
Deputies said that individuals near the accident scene performed CPR on Cole until emergency crews arrived. The victim was subsequently transported to the Lewis County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by authorities. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office extends their condolences to the family and friends of Cole during this difficult time.
