A Phelps man who previously owned a hot dog stand in the village has been convicted on sex abuse and assault charges.
Thomas Mitchell, 52, of Phelps, who owned the ‘Old Mill’ was cleared of the most-serious charges he faced – including rape and kidnapping.
However, he was found guilty of first-degree sex abuse, second-degree assault, and third-degree rape. All of those charges are Class D felonies.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 24th.
According to prosecutors who spoke with the Finger Lakes Times about the case, Mitchell had a history of domestic violence and convictions dating back to 1996.
District Attorney Jim Ritts, who prosecuted the case, called him an ‘intimate terrorist’.
