Two arrested after child sex abuse investigation in Wayne County

Investigators say two people are facing serious charges after allegations of sexual assault against minors.

The investigation dates back to 2015, according to deputies.

Michael Akers, 43, of Newark has been charged with first-degree sex abuse, aggravated family offense, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Tammy Akers, 35, has been charged with two counts of predatory sex assault against a child, two counts of first-degree rape, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

It’s alleged that between 2015 and 2016 the two acted in concert to sexually abuse two children on several occasions.

Both were transported to the Wayne County Jail where they were arraigned.
