Sabres return from break, fall 7-2 to Flames

The Buffalo Sabres led 2-0 after the first period, but fell apart and allowed the Calgary Flames to score seven unanswered goals in another loss at KeyBank Center on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Buffalo drops to 26-21-4 (56 points) on the season.

Tage Thompson and Casey Mittelstadt netted the first-period goals for the Sabres. It was Thompson’s team-leading 35th of the season and Mittelstadt’s eighth.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen really struggled between the pipes. He made 33 saves but gave up all seven goals.

The Sabres will try to snap their skid when they begin a three-game West Coast trip on Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
