Retrial begins for man accused of sexually abusing minor in Seneca County

Seneca County Court has begun the retrial for a local man charged with sexual abuse of a minor.

Randy Adorno-Davila, 34, is facing charges of predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A felony that carries a potential life sentence. The retrial began on Monday with the selection of a jury and is expected to last for the majority of the week.

The previous trial, which took place in December 2021, resulted in Adorno-Davila being found guilty. However, the sentencing was postponed indefinitely after the defendant requested a new lawyer. The reason for the new trial has not been disclosed by District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz or his first assistant, Dave Mashewske.

Adorno-Davila was arrested in early 2021 following investigations by state and Waterloo police, with the same alleged victim in both cases. The first trial was prosecuted by former Seneca County Assistant District Attorney Brooke Moore, and the second trial is being handled by Mashewske.

He is currently being held at the Seneca County Correctional Facility without bail.
