The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
The Auburn Citizen reports that the suit came after DOCCS failed to release officer disciplinary records following the repeal of a state law that prevented the disclosure of them.
NYCLU filed a FOIL request in October 2020 for disciplinary records. After section 50-a of the state’s Civil Rights Law was repealed, the records should have been released.
That didn’t happen.
DOCCS is said to have provided 26 partial responses. It’s final response on the FOIL came in August 2022.
It was incomplete. Now, litigation over the matter will move forward.
