Police have identified the victim of a stabbing that took place on January 20 in Big Flats as 29-year-old Joseph Hartford.
He remains hospitalized at Robert Packer Hospital, but has been upgraded to stable condition.
According to police, the incident took place at a home on Burkeshire Drive, where 34-year-old Theodore Swan stabbed Hartford several times in the chest.
Swan subsequently barricaded himself inside his home, and after hours of negotiations, he eventually surrendered to authorities. The police had to deploy a robot and fire gas canisters into the home before Swan’s surrender.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and it is not yet known how the two men knew each other.
Swan is currently being held at the Chemung County Jail on second-degree attempted murder charges, with bail set at $250,000 cash. The investigation is ongoing.
