UPDATE: Driver lost control of vehicle before Genesee St. crash in downtown Auburn, then fled the scene

Law enforcement has provided additional information about the crash that left several vehicles damaged in downtown Auburn over the weekend.

First responders were called to a wreck that happened around midnight in Auburn.

The driver, who was not initially located, was said to have fled the scene and later taken into custody.

Police confirmed late-Sunday that the driver was involved in an incident at Swaby’s Tavern. When he left that incident, he sped away, losing control of the vehicle where the accident happened on Genesee Street.

Police said charges are pending and would be released in the coming days.


ORIGINAL: Driver missing immediately after serious crash in downtown Auburn

Police spent the early-morning hours on Sunday looking for a driver who was involved in a serious Auburn crash.

Around midnight police were called to an area of East Genesee Street for the report of a multi-vehicle accident.


Upon arrival they found a BMW sedan, which was heavily damaged. It had struck two vehicles, including a pickup truck and sedan.

The driver of the BMW could not be found. The conditions of the driver or extent of injuries they sustained in the crash was unknown.

No additional information was immediately available.
