The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old faces a felony charge after making a bomb threat at a school in Cato.
The 14-year-old, who was not identified, was charged with falsely reporting an incident.
Investigators acted quickly, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck, who said the teen was taken into custody shortly after they were made aware of the incident late-Monday.
“Any threats of violence against our schools or members of our community will be investigated thoroughly and those responsible will be held accountable. There are consequences for posting threats of violence on social media and it is not a joke,” Sheriff Brian Schenck said. “I would like to commend the administrative staff of the Cato School District and the members of our Sheriff’s Office for partnering on this investigation and identifying the responsible individual so quickly. I would also like to thank the Cato-Meridian Central School District for their complete cooperation in this matter.”
No additional information was available about the incident.
