Penn Yan teens escape injury after drunk driver causes crash in Yates County

Deputies say a 66-year-old Branchport driver was intoxicated at the time of a crash that he caused in the town of Jerusalem.

It happened at the intersection of Sand Hill Road and State Route 54A. Fortunately, the two Penn Yan teenagers in the vehicle Gregory Helbig struck were not injured.


Deputies said Helbig’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side door of the vehicle as he attempted to make a turn from Route 54A.

An investigation determined that Helbig was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The two 16-year-old’s inside the second vehicle were not injured.
