Mobile betting in New York by the numbers: 3.8M accounts, 1.2B transactions, and $909M in tax revenue

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the state has generated over $709.2 million in taxes from mobile sports betting in just one year, making it the leading state in the nation in terms of revenue generated from sports betting.

An additional $200 million in licensing fees has also been collected, bringing the total revenue generated to over $909 million. The majority of this revenue will be used for education.

“In just one year, New York has become a national leader in providing responsible entertainment for millions while bringing in record-shattering revenue for education, youth sports, and problem gambling prevention,” said Governor Hochul. “I look forward to another year of delivering top-tier mobile sports wagering experiences that generate revenue to enrich the lives of New Yorkers across the state.”

According to software firm GeoComply, which is used by sportsbooks to ensure geolocation requirements, more than 3.8 million unique player accounts have been created since the launch of mobile sports betting in January 2022, with over 1.2 billion transactions conducted.
