Driver involved in crash, later found unconscious behind the wheel in Wayne County had BAC nearly three-times the legal limit

Following a lengthy investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, an Ontario man was arrested on several charges.

On December 15th, 2022, deputies found 54-year-old Steve Foltz unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle at the intersection of Lakeside Road and State Route 104. Further investigation revealed that Foltz had been involved in an earlier crash that was being handled by the State Police in the Town of Walworth.

Deputies suspected that Foltz was intoxicated by alcohol and possibly under the influence of drugs at the scene. Foltz was treated by EMS personnel and later transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, where blood was drawn.

On January 13th lab results confirmed the presence of alcohol and marijuana in Foltz’s system at the time of the accident with a blood alcohol content of 0.23%.

He was charged with multiple offenses, including stopping or parking on a highway, refusal to take a breath test, consumption or possession of an open alcohol container or marijuana in a motor vehicle, driving while ability impaired by the combination of alcohol and drugs, and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Foltz was processed at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office before being released on traffic tickets. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Ontario Court at a later date to answer to the charges.
