New York Yankees starting pitcher Frankie Montas is still experiencing right shoulder inflammation and is expected to miss the first month of the regular season, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Montas, 29, dealt with a shoulder issue at the end of last season and landed on the injured list. He returned to throw one inning in the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros, giving up a solo home run.
The Yankees acquired Montas last season in a trade with the Oakland Athletics right before the trade deadline. He has struggled in his short time in New York, posting a 6.35 ERA over 39 2/3 innings.
With Montas expected to be out until at least May, the Yankees’ fifth starter will likely be Domingo Germán or Clarke Schmidt.
