Sheriff Ron Spike was first elected to the post he’s held for eight, four-year terms in 1991.
He took office in 1992 and never looked back. Now though, after an announcement late this week, New York’s most-senior Sheriff will retire at the end of 2023.
The 73-year-old made the announcement about his re-election status at the end of the week.
All told, he’s been with the sheriff’s office for more than 50 years.
Sheriff Spike called it an honor and privilege to serve residents in Yates County throughout his career.
