Troopers: Three dozen weapons charges filed after narcotics investigation in CNY

On January 6, 2023, the New York State Police arrested 37-year-old Thomas R. Butts of Cazenovia, New York on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony, 15 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony, and 22 counts of first-degree failure to safely store firearms, a Class A misdemeanor.

The arrest was the result of an investigation into an illegal narcotics complaint at Butts’ residence on South Road in the town of Fenner. During the investigation, drug paraphernalia was found in the area of numerous firearms, including 12 handguns, 6 assault rifles, 2 assault pistols, 4 shotguns, 5 rifles, and 18 high-capacity magazines, as well as several compliant magazines.

Butts was arraigned in the town of Fenner Court and released on $35,000 bail.
