The Geneva City Council has renewed its longtime opposition to the Seneca Meadows Landfill in Seneca Falls.
City Council unanimously passed a resolution at Wednesday’s meeting opposing a plan that would increase the height of the landfill on State Route 414.
That plan would also extend the life of the landfill through 2040.
Seneca Meadows is currently involved in the permit application process for this infill expansion, which will effectively convert the property into one large mound – instead of multiple.
That said, the plan runs in opposition to Seneca Falls’ Local Law 3 of 2016, which requires closure of the landfill by the end of 2025.
A number of environmental groups have been involved in fighting the expansion. The state Department of Environmental Conservation will ultimately have final say about whether Seneca Meadows can expand.
