On New Year’s Day, the Elmira Police Department arrested two individuals on drug and weapons charges. One suspect is from Binghamton and the other is from Endicott.
The incident began when an officer noticed a vehicle that was believed to be involved in a recent shooting in the city. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but it attempted to evade him by making numerous turns and committing several traffic violations.
The vehicle was eventually stopped and a passenger fled the scene while the driver threw items that appeared to be narcotics. The driver was taken into custody without incident while other officers apprehended the passenger. The suspects were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony. The driver, Dashawn Harris, was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, a large sum of money, and a loaded Glock handgun. The Elmira Police Department is reminding the community to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
