Registered sex offender charged with rape, kidnapping, and criminal contempt after attack

William Snyder, a 54-year-old man from Middlebury, has been arrested and charged with rape and other crimes following an incident in Wyoming County.

According to local police, Snyder violated a protection order and held a woman at a home in Perry for more than two days. Snyder, who is a registered sex offender, is also accused of sexually assaulting the victim and causing her injury.


Snyder was taken into custody on December 28th and has been charged with rape, criminal sex act, kidnapping, and criminal contempt. He is currently being held in the Wyoming County Jail without bail and is due to appear in Perry Village Court on January 10th.

The details of the alleged incident and the identity of the victim have not been released to the public. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the case to contact them.
