Police say Canandaigua man falsely reported burglary during summer

On December 28th Canandaigua Police Department made an arrest related to an incident that didn’t occur.

Police say 38-year-old Jeremy C. Washburn, a resident of the city, was taken into custody for falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable false written statement.

According to a news release, Washburn had reported a burglary to the Ontario County 911 Center on August 27th, 2022, at around 2:00 pm. He provided a written statement to the City of Canandaigua Police Department claiming that the crime had taken place. However, after conducting an investigation, it was determined that no such burglary had occurred and the information provided by Washburn was false.

Washburn was processed by the police department and released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear before the City of Canandaigua Court at a later date to face charges related to the false report.
