An Owego woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a stabbing that left a man critically wounded, according to local police.
On December 31st Owego Police received a call from Veronica Kelly, 58, reporting that she had stabbed someone. When officers arrived at the Fox Street address, they found a man suffering from “extensive laceration and stab wounds” on his torso. The man was transported to Wilson Trauma Center in Johnson City by Owego Emergency Medical Services and is said to be in critical condition.
Kelly was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. She is currently being held at the Tioga County Jail on $250,000 bail/$500,000 bond. The case has been turned over to the Tioga County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Details about the incident, including the identity of the victim and the circumstances leading up to the stabbing, have not yet been released by the police. It is also not clear at this time if Kelly has retained an attorney or if she has entered a plea. The investigation is ongoing.
