Tage Thompson recorded his third hat trick of the season and the Buffalo Sabres (19-5-2) picked up a 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals (21-13-6) in overtime on Tuesday night at the Capital One Arena. With the win, Buffalo has won seven of their last eight.
Alex Tuch won a puck battle below the goal line and passed in front to Thompson for the game-winner three minutes into the extra period.
Thompson also tallied an assist to go along with his three-goal night. Tuch had a goal and two assists, while Tyson Jost also found the back of the net.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen continued his hot stretch of play as he stopped 28-of-32 shots, including several big ones down the stretch.
The Sabres will get a few days off before they open a four-game homestand, starting Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild.
