It was Governor Kathy Hochul’s final act of 2022: Giving lawmakers a raise.
After lawmakers passed a $32,000 raise for themselves in late-December – Governor Kathy Hochul signed the bill raising their salaries to $142,000 per year.
The law also puts limits on how much money state lawmakers can earn outside their jobs as elected officials.
That income is only tied to jobs, though. Income from investments and pensions does not count.
Some Republicans and Democrats objected to the pay raises. However, they didn’t have numbers in Albany to stop it.
