Minimum wage increasing to $14.20 in days: Will lawmakers move ahead with $20+ wage proposal?

Now that the minimum wage increase to $14.20 an hour is imminent, advocates are setting their sights on a bigger goal.

Increasing minimum wage to $20 an hour and get it in line with inflation.

Advocates say it’s necessary, and have lobbied for a bill that would phase-in another series of minimum wage hikes – pushing it from $15 to $20 an hour within a few years.

A version of this bill has been toured around Albany before, but failed to gain enough steam.

Business leaders say raising minimum wage to that degree will have a major, negative impact on the state.
